Mosaic

It's supposed to be a rose, but when I put the glass in, they sank and I had to add more glass so it doesn't look that much like a rose. After that it didn't look like much so I put small pieces of red and clear glass around it.

Story Art

This is a story about learning to play the piano, but what it's really about is that you need to practice something to be good at it and don't give up. This is going to be in pencil and I'm planning on using some red for some parts.

Fortune Cookie Art

"You are ready to let your creative talents blossom." was the fortune I decided to work with. It took me a while to figure out what I was going to do, but when I came up this idea I got pretty into this project. The idea was to have a flower (rose) come out of a piece of paper, so it would be like the paper (the creative talent) was blossoming. I feel like this is my best artwork this year.

Coloring Book Art

The theme for these are obviously Alice In Wonderland. I am still working on them, I'm going to color them in. It's not really abstract, but I didn't know what else to do.

This is some progress I've made, but I'm still not finished, I still have a few more things to color in.

I have everything colored in now but the background (grass, water, etc.).

I'm finally finished with this project. It's not that great, it just took a lot longer than I thought it would to color everything in and try to find the right colors to use.

Photos of Forgotten Things

The lost and forgotten pictures I took were all planned out. I went through my house and picked out some things that I thought could have been easily lost or forgotten and put them in different places around my yard. I put them in places that would be normal to see the specific object that was "lost" in that environment. I tried to get cool perspectives for each object, but not all of them worked out. This was a cool project for positioning things in ways that look natural and/or seeing things through the lenses.

I used an iPad app again for editing these pictures and didn't try to change them that much. I made the pictures darker and either added or took away the contrast. I also took away some of the color (saturation). I did these edits because I wanted to make the pictures look old and drained out. Some pictures turned out that way, but others I decided looked better more defined (higher contrast).

Headphones in Different Places

I decided I should use an object that most people use every day. I wanted to show how often someone might see something throughout the day if they pay attention. I decided to go with taking pictures of headphones in different settings. I wanted them to seem like that would be a place they would actually be, so I started paying closer attention to where people put their things. I also factored in the fact that they are usually plugged into something, so in most pictures they are plugged into an iPod.

I did basic editing with an app on the iPad. The pictures were easy to stage, but I feel like I could've done something to make them more interesting. I liked planning this project better than what it turned out to be in the end. Now I wish I did themed pictures instead of the same object in different settings, but the pictures turned out okay anyway. The project was a good way to see our normal days with new eyes and I enjoyed it.

Figure Art

I chose a sitting position because when we were doing the times model drawings I preferred the one where the model was sitting. The girl in my drawing looks weird because she's slouched so her legs look longer than they should be. I think the picture would've looked better if I could get the window to look right too, but I was spending too much time on that part when the project was about the person. I think picture was good, but I could've done better with some parts.

Haunted Pictures

I used a lot of editing in GIMP for the haunted pictures I took. Using GIMP was very difficult for this project. I would've preferred to use Photoshop specifically for this assignment but I guess they turned out okay for what I had to work with. I like the first picture the best because it looks realistic, but the second one looks really fake and edited because the sky is really blue and the trees look fake. The last one is okay, but the door has that fake look for the window, which I tried to fix but couldn't figure out how to do that.

Sketching Proportions from a Model

I always have problems with proportions and this is no exception. It is very hard to do this without an eraser and being timed adds to the problem. I did way better towards the end because I had more time and I had practice.

Photomontage

The butterfly picture is the picture I took. I tried to make it look like someone is sketching a picture and it is coming to like, but it didn't really turn out that way. I took the picture of the hand off the internet and edited it to make it look darker. I turned both the easel and the sketch so they would match up when put on each other. The sketch had to have a lot of alterations to add perspective and to make it look like an actual sketch. This photomontage turned out better than I thought it would.
I took a picture of a book and tried to make it look like there were birds coming out of the book made out of the pages. I took bird silhouettes off the internet and used the selection tool to make a layer mask over a picture of a book page I also took off the internet. I used the burn tool to make the book page look darker so it would look sort of like the actual book pages. The background was just a picture of dark wood that I blurred in some areas so it would draw the attention away from the book. It didn't go so well, I was still trying to learn how to use GIMP and I kept messing it up and having to undo everything I did.
I took the picture of the bottle and the background from the internet. There was another smaller ship inside the bottle and I used to clone stamp to take it out. I used a layer mask to take the sky out of the picture I actually took of the bridge. I used to burn tool to make the bridge look darker so it would match the background picture. Overall it turned out better than I thought it would since I was using GIMP but I feel like it would've turned out better if I had Photoshop.

Stylized Self Portrait

I had a lot of problems with the hair. I also see now that the eyes and mouth are too small, and there is too much jaw showing. Drawing a face now is a lot easier than it was in Art 1, but it also helped that it was only a profile picture instead of straight on.

Night vs. Day

Night
Taking night pictures was very hard when it came to the sky. The moon was too small and if the camera moved lights became streaks of light. A lot of the time the pictures were just black, so I had to edit some to be very bright. I tried to use a flashlight for some, but it just looked like a spotlight so I used the flash on the camera. I also changed the contrast to make the pictures look darker and more like they were taken at night.
Day
The day pictures were a lot easier to take. I took the pictures so there was a lot of the sky to show that it was taken during the day. Some pictures I took have the sun clearly in the picture, but I didn't want to have it in every picture for variety. When I edited the pictures I made the colors more vibrant and decided if parts of the picture looked better bright or dark. There were many different possibilities for day pictures I could have taken, but out of all the pictures I took, I like the ones showing more sky.
